Since it began a decade ago, the federal government’s massive investigation of the 2001 anthrax attacks has been plagued by missteps and complications.
Investigators initially focused on the wrong man, then had to pay him a nearly $6 million settlement. In 2008, they accused another man, Bruce E. Ivins, who killed himself before he could go to trial.
Now, in the latest twist, the government has argued against itself.
In documents deep in the files of a recently settled Florida lawsuit, Justice Department civil attorneys contradicted their own department’s conclusion that Ivins was unquestionably the anthrax killer. The lawyers said the type of anthrax in Ivins’s lab was “radically different” from the deadly anthrax. They cited several witnesses who said Ivins was innocent, and they suggested that a private laboratory in Ohio could have been involved in the attacks.
The unusual spectacle of one arm of the Justice Department publicly questioning another has the potential to undermine one of the most high-profile investigations in years, according to critics and independent experts who reviewed the court filings.
“I cannot think of another case in which the government has done such an egregious about-face. It destroys confidence in the criminal findings,’’ said Paul Rothstein, a law professor at Georgetown University.

In a ferocious legal battle pitting government lawyers against victims of the
Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, the Justice Department is fighting to block
thousands of individuals and businesses from taking $6.6 million in frozen al-Qaeda
assets seized from an alleged terrorism financier.
Frozen by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2007, the money is sought by the
attorneys for 6,000 individual victims and insurers who suffered billions in
losses from the attacks on the World Trade Center.
The money, in a Chicago brokerage account controlled by senior al-Qaeda operative
Abu al-Tayyeb until his arrest in Saudi Arabia in 2006, drew little public notice
until lawyers for 9/11 victims moved in June to collect on a 2007 default judgment.
A short time later, the Justice Department initiated legal proceedings to claim
the money for itself - and keep it out of the hands of the 9/11 victims and
insurers.
That triggered a fierce response from the victims' lawyers, among them the
Center City law firm Cozen O'Connor, who accuse the Justice Department of duplicity
in seeking to prevent them from getting access to the money.
The Deaths of JFK, RFK—and the Silence of the Lambs
By Russ Baker on Jan 23, 2012
Which is the real president? And which is the real story?
As the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy approaches, there is a growing flurry of material about—or even from—the Kennedy clan. This includes “insider” accounts and what are described as exciting, must-read and must-watch revelations.
Yet, for some reason, little of it is truly revelatory, or if it is, it seems, almost by design, very, very small potatoes indeed.
Take for example a new documentary by Bobby Kennedy’s daughter, for HBO. What’s the big revelation? That Bobby feared…are you ready… that someone would throw acid in the face of his children. Who? The mafia. And when was this a threat? In the 1950s. When RFK was a Senate investigator, years before he and his brother ever got near the White House. And years before his brother and then he himself were killed under still-unresolved circumstances.

A former CIA official who publicly confirmed the waterboarding of top Al-Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah was charged Monday with leaking classified information to journalists, including the identities of two CIA officers.
John Kiriakou, who served with the CIA between 1990 and 2004, was charged with violating a law that makes it illegal to disclose the identity of a covert officer, leaking classified information and lying to a CIA publications review board, the department said.
He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

While the White House went to great lengths to keep the details of last year’s raid on the Osama bin Laden compound from penetrating the public peripheral, investigators are questioning how much intel the Pentagon passed to hotshots in Hollywood.
Lawmakers say that the May 2011 event that nearly ended the War on Terror was among the most secretive in the history of the CIA, and the Obama administration has since shunned the public from any details pertaining to the plan even after the former al-Qaeda leader’s execution and burial at sea. As skeptics scorned President Obama for his lack of transparency in the process and demanded proof, the White House largely left details of the event and what occurred before and after locked up in Washington.
According to Rep. Peter King (R-NY), insiders in Tinsletown were given the key.
A New 9/11 Investigation - Coming to a Theater Near You? Hollywood Stars Seek to Make Feature Film Focused on WTC Demolitions

“A Violation of Trust” (formerly titled “Confession of a 9/11 Conspirator”) is a feature film project that is willing to do what the world’s governments and legal bodies are unwilling to do – open a real investigation of 9/11 for the entire world to see. It dramatizes the first day of “The President’s New Investigation of 9/11”, with actors performing from a tightly-written, factually-accurate script that pits the 9/11 Commission Report and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Reports against the work of 9/11 researcher Dr. David Ray Griffin and the scientific research highlighted by leading 9/11 truth organizations, including Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth.
Were Explosives the Source of the Seismic Signals Emitted from New York on September 11, 2001?

INTRODUCTION
When major shocks occur at the Earth's surface or at depth, waves of
different types, magnitudes and speeds may move out from the source location.
Such waves can be detected by seismometers located at recording stations, and
the data from the recordings can be analyzed to learn many details of the source
events. Seismic signals were recorded at stations in New York and four neighboring
states on September 11, 2001 during the period when the North and South Towers
(WTC1 and WTC2, respectively) were struck by airliners and collapsed, as well
as during the collapse of Building 7 of the WTC, which had not been hit by a
plane.
Data from the Palisades, NY recording station, located 34 km north-north-east
of Manhattan, published by the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia
University (LDEO), provide the most detailed seismic waveforms for analysis,
particularly for the determination of the locations (aerial, surface, or subsurface)
and timing of the events that created the seismic waves.
Seismologists have been puzzled in their analysis of signals recorded for the
events at the World Trade Center, as the contradictions are significant. They
are particularly intrigued by the presence of seismic "peaks" before
the collapses. This text focuses on the study of the seismic signals from Palisades.
The new interpretation presented here renders the assertions of the seismic
analysis of the events at the WTC, presented by the government, null and void.

Even more than its predecessors, Censored 2012 makes for highly engaging and
informative reading. This collection is a well mixed bag containing much that
we need to know but too often don't.
This deficit occurs because many Americans are, in Neil Postman's memorable
phrase, "amusing ourselves to death" and in part because many exhibit
an aversion to discussing issues. But above all the deficit results from increased
media malpractice and censorship. When a study shows that regular viewers of
Fox News are less informed--and likely more misinformed--than those
who don't follow the news, something is seriously amiss.
According to editor Mickey Huff, the corporate media are serving up a diet
of "junk-food news to avoid telling the public what is really going on
at home and abroad" (p. 12). If this strikes many readers as obvious,
fewer seem fully aware of just how pervasive this censorship has become--how
very little coverage many significant issues receive.

ABSTRACT: In an article published in the Journal of Political Philosophy, Cass Sunstein and Adrian Vermeule argue that the government and its allies ought to actively undermine groups that espouse conspiracy theories deemed “demonstrably false.” They propose infiltrating such groups in order to “cure” conspiracy theorists by treating their “crippled epistemology” with “cognitive diversity.” They base their proposal on an analysis of the “causes” of such conspiracy theories, which emphasizes informational and reputational cascades. Some may regard their proposal as outrageous and anti-democratic. I agree. However, in this article I merely argue that their argument is flawed in at least the following ways: (1) their account of the popularity of conspiracy theories is implausible, and (2) their proposal relies on misleading “stylized facts,” including a caricature of those who doubt official narratives and a deceptive depiction of the relevant history.

Even as we pass judgment on countries we consider unfree, Americans remain confident that any definition of a free nation must include their own -- the land of free. Yet, the laws and practices of the land should shake that confidence. In the decade since Sept. 11, 2001, this country has comprehensively reduced civil liberties in the name of an expanded security state. The most recent example of this was the National Defense Authorization Act, signed Dec. 31, which allows for the indefinite detention of citizens. At what point does the reduction of individual rights in our country change how we define ourselves? While each new national security power Washington has embraced was controversial when enacted, they are often discussed in isolation. But they don't operate in isolation. They form a mosaic of powers under which our country could be considered, at least in part, authoritarian. Americans often proclaim our nation as a symbol of freedom to the world while dismissing nations such as Cuba and China as categorically unfree. Yet, objectively, we may be only half right. Those countries do lack basic individual rights such as due process, placing them outside any reasonable definition of "free," but the United States now has much more in common with such regimes than anyone may like to admit. These countries also have constitutions that purport to guarantee freedoms and rights. But their governments have broad discretion in denying those rights and few real avenues for challenges by citizens -- precisely the problem with the new laws in this country. The list of powers acquired by the U.S. government since 9/11 puts us in rather troubling company.

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11 Image Comics published a one-shot comicbook entitled The Big Lie — written and drawn by comic’s veteran, Rick Veitch, Gary Erskine (inks), with Thomas Yeates (cover), Dominic Reagan (color), and Annie Parkhouse (letters). According to the publisher, The Big Lie will be a series of one-shot/stand-alone comics that will serve as conversation pieces for many comic fans and non-comic fans alike. The intention of the comic is to explore very real and often politically-charged questions in traditional comic book format. The first issue of The Big Lie was published in honor of the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Most of the recent big, commonly noticeable and objectionable changes in our
controllable circumstances in America -- including many downright atrocities
-- have happened since September 11, 2001. And a goodly number of them
have developed as a direct consequence. Although that day still seems,
in many ways, very recent, it appears to have marked not only a beginning of
our current and accumulating woes, but also the end of a long age of relative
bliss, freedom, and a degree of personal opportunity that we haven't experienced
since.
My supposition, which I've voiced here before, is that 9/11 wasn't
just an "inside job", but rather was done at the bequest of an international
elite firmly in control of our (government + corporate) establishment, as well
as those in other countries, the main trunk of the giant controlling octopus
being international central banking.
Within a year or two after 9/11/01, at least a small segment of the populace
was beginning to note that a credible (and routine) investigation of the background
and modus operandi of 9/11 still hadn't been conducted by the criminal
justice system. The lack of initiative in this case seemed puzzling due to nearly
all Americans' faith at the time in the strength and reliability of the constitutional
machinery of due process. The ensuing insistence by many that such routine procedures
be carried out and criminal accountability be exacted stemmed from a shocked
observation that such was not already completed, as one would have supposed,
nor even yet underway. And thus, the 9/11 Truth movement in its present form
was conceived to compel or urge that tardy process.
What began in Iowa on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 and will continue to June 26 is an American tradition that AE911Truth needs you to participate in. Americans will be heading to their caucuses and primaries to select their preferred Presidential candidate. There are currently many Republican candidates traversing states and making local appearances in small venues. This gives you, the supporters of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a unique accessible opportunity to interact with the candidates and to make a simple statement or ask a simple question to educate and pin them down on the issue of a new investigation and have them state their stance – publicly, and ideally in front of the media. You can find the candidate’s web-sites to see where they will be meeting voters near you.
Because it is important to engage the candidate and the other people in attendance with as much finesse as possible, we suggest:
Option 1: (A statement)
This statement is fairly concise yet includes the important detail that we are not alone in our call for a real investigation. By not asking a specific question, and thereby not eliciting a response, it may very well have more impact during the awkward moment following with the audience, media, and the candidate himself.
As stated in the abstract, this paper shows that, of all the theories about what caused the damage and debris at the Pentagon on 9/11, a large plane impacting the Pentagon is in best accord with the majority eye witness testimony and main physical evidence, and is by far the most plausible theory. The failure of the 9/11 truth movement to reach consensus on this issue after almost a decade is largely due to a failure to rigorously apply the scientific method to each proposed theory.
David Chandler and I have now published an Addendum to our paper "The Pentagon Attack on 9/11:
A Refutation of the Pentagon Flyover Hypothesis Based on Analysis of the Flight Path" http://stj911.org/legge/Legge_Chandler_NOC_Refutation.html
The Addendum draws on two additional pieces of evidence to revise the calculations of bank angle and wing loading which would be required if the plane followed the curved path north of the Citgo service station. This strengthens the previous conclusions set out in the original paper. Previously the failure of the many witnesses to mention a steep bank was taken as proof that the curved path did not happen, while the survival of the aircraft, if it deviated round the service station, was regarded as unlikely. With this new analysis of the witness testimony, showing the plane was flying wings level near the Naval Annex, survival of the plane is now found to be absolutely impossible. There is thus no rational explanation of the event other than that the plane flew virtually straight past the Naval Annex and the service station to the impact point.

A growing body of evidence points to a concerted campaign to prepare Americans
and the world for war against Iran. This is not idle speculation. It fits a
pattern that repeatedly preceded previous hostilities.
Here are the recent examples on Iran:
-The claim that Iran is a WMD threat. Pretty much everyone is familiar with
the long-term, continuing efforts to paint Iran as some kind of nuclear threat.
This ignores the possibility that Iran is telling the truth in contending it
is embarked on solely non-military nuclear research (debatable), and serious
doubts among many experts that Iran is preparing nuclear weapons. Perhaps most
important, it discounts the fact that many countries (including Iran's
arch-enemy Israel) have nuclear weapons, and disregards the undoubted truth
that if a country like Iran ever did launch nuclear weapons, it would be wiped
out in a nanosecond, creating a very strong disincentive for offensive use.
At the same time, by encouraging other countries and internal foes to believe
that it has nuclear weapons, Iran creates an inexpensive protective shield for
its regime. A dangerous game, to be sure, but without further evidence of Iranian
nukes, hardly a reason to launch a war that would surely cause even more death
and destruction than the misguided Iraq invasion. [Continues...]

San Francisco - The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today blocked the government's
attempt to bury the Electronic Frontier Foundation's (EFF's) lawsuit against
the government's illegal mass surveillance program, returning Jewel v. NSA to
the District Court for the next step.
The court found that Jewel had alleged sufficient specifics about the warrantless
wiretapping program to proceed. Justices rejected the government's argument
that the allegations about the well-known spying program and the evidence of
the Folsom Street facility in San Francisco were too speculative.
"Since the dragnet spying program first came to light, we have been fighting
for the chance to have a court determine whether it is legal," said EFF
Legal Director Cindy Cohn. "Today, the Ninth Circuit has given us that
chance, and we look forward to proving the program is an unconstitutional and
illegal violation of the rights of millions of ordinary Americans."

WASHINGTON -- Defying the Obama administration's threat of a veto, the Senate on Tuesday voted to increase the role of the military in imprisoning suspected members of Al Qaeda and its allies -- including people arrested inside the United States.
By a vote of 61 to 37, the Senate turned back an effort to strip a major military bill of a set of disputed provisions affecting the handling of terrorism cases. While the legislation still has several steps to go, the vote makes it likely that Congress will eventually send to President Obama's desk a bill that contains detainee-related provisions his national-security team has said are unacceptable.

The FBI has received substantial criticism over the past decade — much of it valid — but nobody can deny its record of excellence in thwarting its own Terrorist plots. Time and again, the FBI concocts a Terrorist attack, infiltrates Muslim communities in order to find recruits, persuades them to perpetrate the attack, supplies them with the money, weapons and know-how they need to carry it out — only to heroically jump in at the last moment, arrest the would-be perpetrators whom the FBI converted, and save a grateful nation from the plot manufactured by the FBI.

Silly me. I thought flying on 9/11 would be easy. I figured most people would choose not to fly that day so lines would be short, planes would be lightly filled and though security might be ratcheted up, we’d all feel safer knowing we had come a long way since that dreadful Tuesday morning 10 years ago.
But then armed officers stormed my plane, threw me in handcuffs and locked me up.
This August, filmmakers Ray Nowosielski and John Duffy released a previously unseen 2009 interview with the former counterterrorism czar of the Bush and Clinton administrations, Richard Clarke. In the interview, Clarke accuses the former director of the CIA, George Tenet, and two of his aides of covering up the presence of two suspected al-Qaeda terrorists in the US for more than a year.
